Sasria

The South African Special Risks Insurance Association (Sasria) is a government-owned, non-life insurer that covers a number of special risks that other insurers are not allowed to cover.

What does Sasria cover?

Sasria provides special risk cover, against loss or damage caused by politically motivated malicious acts, riots, strikes, terrorism and public disorder, to all individuals and businesses that own assets in South Africa, as well as government entities.

Is Sasria cover automatically included in my car and home insurance?

Sasria does not sell directly to the public but they rather partner with other non-life insurers and the broker market to add their product onto insurance products, like comprehensive car, home and contents insurance. However, it is always best to double check with your insurer that Sasria cover is included.

How much Sasria cover do I have?

If a specific event is covered by Sasria the amount of cover you have will be exactly the same as what you have under the car or home policy that it was added to. For example if your home is insured for R2-million with your insurer, it will also be covered for that amount if it is damaged as a result of something that is covered by Sasria.
