The Boy Is Doing It: A bright future for every child.

Naked Difference

A tribute to hope and new beginnings – The Boy Is Doing It by Lazi Mathebula celebrates Door of Hope’s mission to give every child a brighter future.

Inspired by Hugh Masekela’s song The Boys Are Doing It, artist Lazi Mathebula created this piece in collaboration with the Naked Difference, celebrating the life-changing work of Door of Hope. The artwork depicts a joyful boy, full of colour and promise, symbolising the brighter futures Door of Hope helps create for children who would otherwise face unsafe beginnings.

Since 1999, Door of Hope has rescued thousands of abandoned babies in Johannesburg, providing them with a safe, nurturing environment and the opportunity to experience a normal life – one every child deserves. From Baby Saver boxes to Baby Homes and long-term care in their Children’s Village, Door of Hope supports holistic growth, ensuring children develop confidence, competence and courage alongside love and care.

Lazi says, “Door of Hope’s involvement in the babies’ lives is literally life-altering for the better.” The organisation gives children the chance to flourish and thrive – a sentiment captured in the happiness and vibrancy of the artwork.

While the recent proposed amendment to the Children’s Act could criminalise the use of Baby Saver boxes, public voices can still help protect this safe option for infants. Every child deserves safety and hope, and every act of support matters.

The artwork forms part of The Art of Making a Difference, a collection which tells the story of the Naked Difference and the causes it supports through a curated collection of graphic poster artworks and tote bags. Each piece celebrates the mission and impact of a different organisation.

Unlike traditional insurers, Naked charges a flat fee to cover its running costs, with the rest of the premiums going into a shared pool to pay claims. At the end of each financial year, Naked donates any surplus funds left in the claims pool to causes chosen by customers through the Naked Difference, instead of taking it as profit — ensuring that surplus funds support positive change in South African communities rather than adding to company profits.

That means every Naked customer who chose Door of Hope as their cause on the Naked app helped cover essentials like food, medical care and safe housing, giving every child the stable, nurturing start they deserve.
