Naked Insurance co-founder and COO

Sumarie Greybe is the co-founder and COO of Naked Insurance and leads the company’s operational delivery, including operations, supplier management, customer support, user experience, product design, and finance functions.
She qualified as an actuary through the Institute of Actuaries in London in 1998 and is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa. Before co-founding Naked in 2016, Sumarie built a long track record in short-term insurance and actuarial leadership. She worked at Swiss Reinsurance in Johannesburg, where she focused on reinsurance solutions for South African insurers, and later became a founding partner of Quindiem Consulting, where she led the non-life insurance actuarial consulting division and advised many of South Africa’s largest short-term insurers.
Sumarie has also served on the boards and board committees of major South African insurance companies, including Hollard Insurance Company, and acted as Statutory Actuary for several large insurers. From 2011 to 2016, she led Ernst & Young’s Africa Actuarial Services’ short-term insurance practice as part of EY’s EMEIA Insurance Advisory network, performing advisory and assurance work for many of South Africa’s biggest insurance groups. Her experience includes capital modelling, regulatory solvency work, and supporting insurers through regulatory approval processes under South Africa’s Solvency Assessment and Management regime. At Naked, she brings deep technical insurance expertise and extensive executive experience to the delivery of short-term insurance products in South Africa.
