We’ve added seven new causes to the Naked Difference

A look at what the Naked Difference is and the new causes who will benefit from Naked’s way of working.

When you see or hear “Naked Difference”, Corporate Social Investment might be what comes to mind. But it shouldn’t. The Naked Difference isn’t the icing on the cake as far as social impact goes. The way we’ve built Naked means that causes benefit directly from the way we do business. We’re on a path to do good in an otherwise grudge-purchase industry.

Naked takes a flat fee upfront to cover our running costs and profit. The rest of the money goes towards claims, with leftover premiums at the end of the year paid to causes our clients choose, rather than our bottom line. This is different from other insurers who take the leftover money in the “pot” as profit: we’ve removed the conflict of interest completely. This is the Naked Difference and it changes everything about insurance.

We currently have 13 causes that benefit directly from our business model but we’re excited to share that we’ve added seven new causes in 2022!

Welcome to these seven causes who are new to the Naked Difference

Jozi Trails

If you’re a Joburg local, you’ve bound to have heard of the “spruit”. It starts in Rivonia and ends in Northcliff. Jozi Trails develops, maintains and protects this public nature trail. The main trail is the 37 km long Braamfontein Spruit, one of the world’s largest urban forests. This natural resource is a major asset for outdoor leisure, health and education used by thousands of cyclists, runners and walkers everyday. Jozi Trails work to ensure that the trails are clean, accessible and safe.

Amoyo

Amoyo Performing Arts Foundation offers after-school and holiday dance, drama, singing and performing classes. The aim of the programme is to help close the gap of education and equal opportunity for at-risk and impoverished youth from the Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg communities in Hout Bay. Amoyo helps these youngsters improve their confidence, communication and emotional intelligence and has also as a result, managed to decrease teenage pregnancies, criminal and gang activity and alcohol and substance abuse in the area.

Nourish Eco Village

Nourish is focused on growing resilience in rural communities surrounding the Greater Kruger National Park through education, enterprise and tourism. Conservation through education and community engagement is their mission. To connect communities to conservation, Nourish implements projects that are immersive and fun. Children that love nature, and understand it, will hopefully one day also feel called to protect it.

U-turn

U-turn equips individuals with the skills to overcome homelessness. They do this through a four-phased approach which cares for the holistic needs of each person, including:

  1. Food and shelter;
  2. rehab;
  3. job readiness; and
  4. secure employment.

Over 80% of U-turn graduates remain sober, employed and thriving, never to return to sleeping on the streets again.

Life Choices Academy

Life Choices Academy addresses the software skills shortage and upskills youth through a six-month interactive course that combines lectures, online self-learning and projects, followed by a paid internship, with the aim of converting to employment. LCA graduates are full-stack, entry-level web and software developers ready to take up job opportunities within the industry. LCA upskills 120 youth every year with the intention of securing them meaningful employment.

LIV Village Lanseria

LIV Lanseria exists to be a life-giving village for orphaned and vulnerable children which produces healthy families, empowered communities and future leaders for South Africa. They accomplish this through programmes such as early childhood development, food outreach, foster care, after-school, and Saturday and Holiday programmes for vulnerable children in their village and the surrounding community. LIV Village Lanseria assists 2,500 children a day through their programmes.

Good Morning Angels

Good Morning Angels is the heartbeat of Jacaranda FM and has assisted families, communities, organisations, and individuals in need, since 2005. The Good Morning Angels team receives up to 200 requests daily for assistance: from medical mountains, communities in crisis and educational dreams. You can listen to Good Morning Angels on Breakfast with Martin Bester every Wednesday morning.

These seven new causes are joining a tribe of 13 causes already part of the Naked Difference. You can take a look at all of them here or on the app. We’re very grateful to our clients that support the Naked Difference by being part of our tribe. If you haven’t already, hop on to your Profile on the Naked app and choose a cause – it won’t cost you a thing, it will only benefit the causes. We make our Naked Difference payment once a year around June/July.
