Bright futures begin here: Inside Christel House SA's mission

In South Africa, economic divides can often dictate the trajectory of young lives. Christel House SA, serving the community of Ottery, Cape Town, is changing that narrative. This special institution is not just a school; it's a nurturing environment where children from impoverished backgrounds are given the tools to reshape their futures.

At Christel House SA, learning starts at Grade RR and stretches beyond Matric, supporting many through tertiary education. But it's not just about books.

Christel House SA provides comprehensive support in other vital aspects of a child’s life, creating a holistic educational experience that empowers students to become self-sufficient members of society.

For Matric exams, the students stay at the school, providing them with a stable and focused environment during this critical time. Additionally, Christel House SA goes the extra mile by providing transportation to and from school, ensuring students can attend regularly and safely. The school had a successful 98% student attendance rate for 2023.

Healthcare is another pillar of their mission. The school offers regular healthcare and social services, including dental checkups, hearing and vision screenings, immunisations as well as the support of counsellors and social workers. By addressing the health needs of its students, Christel House SA makes sure that nothing stands in the way of their education.

But it doesn't stop there. Christel House SA is also at the forefront of technology and innovation. They offer exciting robotics and computer science programs, allowing students to explore the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and preparing them for future jobs.

Another important part of the Christel House ethos is the active involvement of parents. By participating in workshops and dedicating volunteer hours, parents weave themselves into the fabric of this community, creating a supportive and interconnected environment for all.

The Class of 2023 is a testament to the school’s commitment to high standards

Matric students achieved a stellar 100% matric pass rate, while 82% of these students secured a Bachelor pass rate.

“We are incredibly proud of our students. Zia-Ud Din G. is our Valedictorian and top student with six academic distinctions. He will be studying medicine at the University of Stellenbosch in 2024. Zia-Ud-Din is not only following his dreams but also in the footsteps of his brother, Mujaahid – a proud Christel House alumnus and our very first dentist.” – Adri Marais, Chief Executive Officer at Christel House South Africa.

Christel House SA isn't just a school; it's proof of the transformative power of education.

What is the Naked Difference and how does it make Naked different from other insurers?

When you see or hear “Naked Difference”, Corporate Social Investment might be what comes to mind. But it shouldn’t. The way we’ve built Naked means that causes benefit directly from the way we do business. We’re on a path to do good in an otherwise grudge-purchase industry.

We take a flat fee upfront to cover running costs and profit. The rest of the money goes towards claims, with leftover premiums at the end of the year paid to causes that our clients choose. This is different from other insurers, who take the leftover money as profit: we’ve removed the conflict of interest completely. This is the Naked Difference and it changes everything about insurance.

We’re passionate about telling people about the Naked Difference and who it supports, so we’re featuring our causes to share what they do within South African communities.
